It's the first south swell of the year and most parts of Orange County the water temperature never dropped below 58 this winter. If this recent swell is a sign of how our summer is going to be this year I'd say we're in for a real treat......The seals on the other hand have not been doing so well. Every time I have been to the beach over the last week I have seen a sick baby seal on the beach. Just a wild thought, but if there are a bunch of sick baby seals near the areas we surf could there also be great white sharks nearby looking for an easy snack?
Living in Southern California the weather is very mild, so seeing something more than sunshine or the occasional light drizzle has always interested me. As soon as the storm intensified I grabbed my camera and headed to the beach. As I walked down the pier I noticed Derek Peters heading out. I watched Derek get some fun waves by himself on south side for almost an hour. Now a days if you got an hour to yourself at the pier you would have thought hell frozen over…. Or at least Huntington did.
The wind and swell picked up, so I picked up may camera.
Drove up late one night to stay at my buddy Cody's house in Oxnard and surf in the morning.... The next morning was cold and I was lazy. We drove around for a couple hours from one end of Ventura to the other and back again.... Cody, Mike, and Jeffy paddled out while I regretfully sat on the beach with my camera and snapped off a few photos.
